The Fantasy Book Club has it’s own website?!

This project has been a long time coming. Almost as long as my online store that I had in the works for close to 3 years before I finally finished it. I am very capable of web design, I mean I got a degree in it after all, and yet… Here I am taking years to build something that used to be the second thing you needed to make a webcomic in the first place. Which I imagine leaves a lot of you wondering a few things…

Why now?

Lately I’ve been experiencing a lot of frustration at the state of the internet in general, as I’m sure a lot of you are as well. Platforms have so much control over what is/isn’t acceptable to post or to sell. What we are shown as readers is limited to the confines of our personal algorithms and in order to get your work in front of people you need to package it in such a way that it appeals to that ever churning content machine.

Over the past few months I have had to censor multiple TFBC episodes due to language (courtesy of Fiona) on Webtoons. Almost all the platforms I post on are either embracing AI, are terrible to their creators, have very few users, or some combination of the three. This is the internet that we are forced to contend with. There isn’t much I can do about most of these things… but I can stop relying on some company as my primary means of distributing my work. There is always the risk that all the work I’ve put into finding an audience could be taken away at a moments notice with no recourse. So, At the very least I want to have place where people can always find me.

So what does that mean for Webtoons?

Webtoon Canvas is where I got my start with TFBC. It’s where I first had any amount of success in reaching an audience. The few readers that I have on Tapas, Global Comix, and NamiComi are incredibly engaged commentors and amazing supporters. I am so glad I was able to reach every single one of you and I have no desire to leave you hanging if you like reading where you are at.

So, do you have to switch to reading on the website? No, if one of the mirror sites is what you prefer that’s totally fine. The ad revenue is basically peanuts no mater where you read it, so it’s not really a question of one being a better money maker for me than others. However, my website will always be the better option… because of the schedule.

New posting schedule:

This new posting schedule will go into effect starting after Episode 26 goes up on the mirror sites on May 16th. which does mean the webtoons will not get another episode until June 13th while the website will get 2 episodes during that time. Sorry about that. This would have been a smoother transition if it weren’t happening in a 5 Saturday month, but it does mean there is big incentive for you to give reading on the website a try.

RSS Feed

If you are a younger reader who has only ever used apps like Webtoons to read your comics, I totally get it. Having everything in once place with built in notifications is super convenient. But you don’t have to lose that functionality. Let me introduce you to the magic of ✨RSS Feeds✨! The officially website’s feed can be found at thefantasybookclubcomic.com/feed. This can be read by the RSS reader of your choice and you can set up notifications on your browser or even through apps on you phone to inform you whenever TFBC updates. It’s entirely customizable and there are a lot RSS feed readers out there. I personally use feeder but I recommend doing some research and finding what’s best for you.
